What's New on SeeThroughNY

November 16, 2009 - New Yorkers can now compare and evaluate per-pupil spending for school districts during the 2007-08 school year using Benchmarking New York, an online database. 

October 8, 2009 - Payroll records for 121,961 custodians, bus drivers, aides, secretaries and other non-professional public school employees were posted today.  The data cover the 12 month-period ending March 31, 2009.

September 18, 2009 - The names and salaries of more than 179,000 people who worked for New York's county, city, town and village governments in 2008-2009 were posted today.


August 25, 2009

An updated staff payroll for the New York State Senate and Assembly was posted today.  The payroll, current as of Aug. 17, can also be downloaded from the site in spreadsheet form.  The payroll was obtained from the state comptroller's office by the Albany Times Union posted on its Capitol Confidential website, from which it was downloaded for SeeThroughNY.

August 19, 2009
- Payroll files for 384 public authorities were posted today.  The new data include names, titles, base pay rates and total pay received for most of the 44,320 public authority employees.


August 13, 2009 -
Updated school labor contracts for 77 teacher unions and 86 school superintendents were posted today.

August 5, 2009
- The Empire Center today marked the first anniversary of SeeThroughNY with the posting of $148.3 million in legislative pork barrel member items for 2009-10.

June 24, 2009
- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority payroll has
been updated to include total pay received by each of the 78,393 people who worked for the MTA at any point in 2008 as well as each employee's pay rate as of the end of the year.

May 14, 2009
- Salaries of 255,959 teachers and administrators employed by New York State's public schools and colleges during the 2007-2008 school year were posted today.


April 16, 2009 -
Complete payrolls for four school districts, updated teacher union and schools superintendent contracts, and a new interactive user forum were added today to STNY.

April 8, 2009
- New Yorkers can now compare and evaluate per-capita spending and tax rates for counties, towns, cities and villages using
Benchmarking New York, an online database.  The new tool includes per-capita spending and tax totals in 16 categories as well as effective property tax rates and debt levels for 1,604 localities in the Empire State.

March 23, 2009 - The New York State government payroll has been updated to include total pay received by each of the 367,732 people who worked for the state at any point in 2008 as well as each employee's pay rate as of the end of the year.


January 6,2009 - The New York City payroll has been added to STNY.

December 18, 2008 -
Payrolls of 19 New York public authorities--including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and regional transit authorities serving Western and Central New York--are now available.

October 1, 2008 - The latest expenditure reports from the Assembly and Senate were added to STNY today.

September 10, 2008 - Payrolls of two of New York’s largest public authorities—the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the New York State Thruway Authority—are now available.

July 31, 2008 - SeeThroughNY launches.
