New York City Payroll Data Notes
The New York City data, as provided by the city Office of Payroll Administration, include names, positions and salaries for all employees who worked for the city during the 2009 and 2008 calendar years.
Other Notes: (1) Under the "agency" grouping for New York City, "personnel monitor" is a category of individuals who are occasionally called upon to proctor (i.e., watch over) civil service exams for an hourly fee of $5, which is processed by the city Office of Payroll Administration. Persons in this category are not classified or counted as city employees, however. (2) New York County District Attorney salaries were reported, by the Office of Payroll Administration (OPA), as of October 15, 2009, rather than for the entire calendar year. As such, New York County District Attorney total pay is unavailable. Moreover, OPA failed to provide data for New York County District Attorney employees for the 2008 calendar year. (3) In the case of Department of Homeless Services (DHS) employees Edgar Brown and George Marfo, there was a clean-up in 2009 of prior incorrect pay amounts reflected in the system only, not paid to them, dating back to 2000. The clean-up was done by DHS in 2009 and resulted in coding in the system reflecting a miscellaneous pay adjustment of $215,335.89 in 2009. It is unclear how many other total pay figures, if any, reflect similar anomalies.
